How to Track Open Rates / Custom Domain Tracking

Learn why disabling open rate tracking improves deliverability and how to track performance with reply rates and inbox tests.

Updated over a week ago

We highly recommend disabling open rate tracking. While it might seem useful to track open rates, doing so harms your email deliverability.

💡 Here's why: To track open rates, email sending tools add a hidden link to your emails. However, adding links to your cold emails negatively impacts deliverability because email providers like Google and Outlook view links as potential security risks and they’re exposing you for sending mass emails.

Instead, we suggest tracking your performance by focusing on reply rates - keep optimizing until you hit above 5% reply rates.

If you want to check your deliverability, you can run inbox placement tests using Mailreach.

Keep in mind to check the results for professional inboxes (B2B) since this is what Mailscale is optimized for.
